The South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison over culpable homicide of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

This ruling was given by Judge Thokozile Masipa who stated that "It would be a sad day for this country if an impression were to be created that there was one law for the poor and disadvantaged, and another for the rich and famous."  The 27 year old blade runner was also handed a three years sentence for fire arm offence. In his reaction, he wiped a tear from his face after the ruling was dished out to him.

Judge Masipa added in her sentencing remarks that "The loss of life cannot be reversed. Nothing I say or do today can reverse what happened on February 14 2013 to the deceased and to her family." And she continues "Hopefully, this judgment on sentence shall provide some sort of closure for the family and all concerned so that they can move on with their lives.".

My take, I pray and hope that the harrowing experience of all those involved in this case, would serve as a lesson to us all.
