As expected that home advantage should afford France an edge, Euro finals 2016 came to a close yesterday with Portugal clinching the winnings with a (1-0)score match with France. Though Cristiano Ronaldo's knee injury was also meant to be a set back but the team still got to rejoice on their victory.

In an interview Ronaldo said "Today I had bad luck because I had a small injury in the beginning of the teams, but my colleagues did their part- they run, they fight ... nobody believed in Portugal but we won,".

Bridging cultural gaps with 'Nigerian Stew' in Canada

Nigerian Canadian entrepreneur, Khadija Haliru has introduced the popular Nigerian stew to the Canadian market.

The vegetable blend sauce which is a staple in many Nigerian homes, serves as an accompaniment to many rice and other dishes. The launch of the West African sauce sales are ongoing in many African food stores across Canada. Haliru mentions that the business is set to expand sales to the USA in no distant time.

A wonderful initiative worthy of emulating. Kudos Ma'am!

Starbucks counter exhibit gets a frown from Thandie Newton

The coffee house chain has tendered an apology to actress Thandie Newton for displaying a statue of a black child holding coffee beans basket in a London store. The British born actress found the sculpture dressed in a loin cloth with a safari hat very offensive.

She tweeted " Seriously @Starbucks? At the counter - Loin cloth and Safari hat on a black child,” And added “Happy New Year circa 19th century.”

Starbucks responded on its twitter handle saying;“@thandienewton we are very concerned to learn of this incident & we can’t apologise enough,” the company tweeted to Newton. “We have removed the figure & are investigating.”

Tuna sells for £80,000

Did you have a double take at this headline? I am not too surprised as I recently watched a documentary on Tokyo's Tuna fish auction. The bids are unimaginable.

A 200kg Tuna was purchased by a Japanese restaurant at a auction in Tokyo for £80,000. President of the outlet behind the purchase similarly in 2013 bought a 222kg fish for over ¥155m.

I will be checking my next shopping trolley to ensure the Tuna in it is not this expensive.

TV, Computer and other gadgets connected with GCSE poor results

publichealth.cam.ac.uk
In 2015 Cambridge University researchers recorded the activities of more than 800 14-year-olds and analysed their GCSE results at 16. Those spending an extra hour a day on screens (TV, computer, games console, phone) saw a fall in GCSE results equivalent to two grades overall.

On average, the 14-year-olds said they spent four hours of their leisure time each day watching TV or in front of a computer.

An additional hour of screen-time each day was associated with 9.3 fewer GCSE points at 16 - the equivalent of dropping a grade in two subjects.
Two extra hours of screen-time was associated with 18 fewer points - or dropping a grade in four subjects. Even if pupils spent more time studying, more time spent watching TV or online, still harmed their results, the analysis suggested.
