£19 million has been raised by Britons under 24 hours for victims of Nepal's earthquake.
The public gave £14 million and the UK government matched the first £5 million of donations. The Disaster Emergency Committee UK (DEC) appeal raised the fund.
Any little thing would go a long way...Many thanks to all who donated.

'Oyinbo Princess' in Nigerian Attire
Photo credit: Oyinbo Princess Facebook page |
On her Facebook page, she uploads her prowess in making Nigerian dishes, sings popular Nigerian hit songs, speaks the Nigerian pidgin English very well (which not every Nigeria can boast of speaking) and now its the attire.
I think this Londoner should be made a Nigerian ambassador. She has really made beauty out of this African country.

Nepal Quake: Google Executive Dan Fredinburg among dead victims
An executive of Google and Co-founder of Google Adventure, Dan Fredinburg has been named one of the dead victims of Nepal quake.
Dan and three other colleagues were on Everest when the quake occurred. His colleagues survived the incident. Dan's interest to take Google Street View to extreme locations led him to co-founding Google Adventure. According to an Instagram post by his sister, the experienced mounter sustained a severe head injury.
Meanwhile ,the IT giant has provided £666,000 for response management. He obviously died in active service.
Our thoughts and prayers with their families at this difficult time.

Who remembers the Globetrotters?
The cartoon Globetrotters came into my discussion today and I fished out this picture..It just brings memories and I'm happy to say I watched some Hanna Barbera Productions too.
The cartoon is about a basketball team who secretly have their individual superpowers and could all fly. They could change themselves from their normal selves by going into magic portable lockers to transform.
It was pretty cool to watch the one with the Afro bring out variety of things from that kinky hair. lol

Robot running hospital errands in Glasgow
What can be more cool than seeing a robot doing essential deliveries within hospital building? Glasgow's £842 million new hospital welcomes first patients today. The 14-storey building has in it 1109 beds and its to staff around 10,000 workers. In addition, 26 robots will operate behind scenes.
Three separate Glasgow hospitals, Southern General, Victoria Infirmary and the Western Infirmary will be vacated, transferring about 1000 patients to the new infirmary.
According to the Dr David Stewart, Medical Director for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said : "This allows us to truly bring healthcare into the 21st Century. For most of my career I've been working out of buildings some of which have been more than 100 years old. "Frankly, although they were fine in their day, they were not suitable for the type of technologically based healthcare which we need to deliver now."
Long live NHS!!

Nepal Earthquake: Death Toll Soars
Photo:CNN |
According to National Emergency Operation Centre , not less than 6,500 people have been injured in the tremor. A lot of emergency tents have been set up in the nation's city Kathmandu for displaced person affected by the earthquake.
Officials have warned that western Nepal might have more casualties around the mountain areas which are remote.
I hope they get enough support and emergency aids to alleviate the sufferings of the casualties.

What should an Australian jockey Blake Shinn do when his trousers falls during a race? The 27-year-old was hoping to mesmerize the audience at the Hyland Race Colours Plate in Canterbury Australia by riding Miss Royale (the horse) to win. The Melbourne Cup- winning jockey's trousers fell down straight causing him to display his whole backside to the public, as Miss Royale finished second in the race.
In his response to the embarrassment he said ; "I was more worried about winning the race. They (the pants) went just after the start and there was nothing I could do," Shinn added. "I think a lot of people are going to have a bit of fun with this, but they can't say I wasn't focused and went to the line."

Self control equals success in kids
Do you know that self control determines a child future success?? I read a newspaper "In Brief" column where it reads; "Parents who work to instill self-control in their children will see them reap the benefits not only in the short-term but throughout their working life, according to a study.
The Stirling University team found that children with high self-control are much more likely to find and retain employment as adults, spending 40 percent less time unemployed than those who had a lower capacity for self-control as children. The concept of self control can include a child's ability to pay attention, persist with difficult tasks and suppress inappropriate or impulsive behaviour.
Dr Micheal Daly of the behavioural science centre at the university, said: 'The study highlights the importance of early life self-control as a power predictor of job prospects.'"

Xenophobia: A Nigerian-South African side of the narratives
In the spate of the Xenophobic killings in South Africa, this article gave a clear understanding of how matters should be seen. I have nothing but respect for Lovelyn Chidinma Nwadeyi, a Nigerian-South African who gave her living experience and an overview on the ongoing violence.
Lovelyn Chidinma Nwadeyi Photo : sapeople.com
"My name is Lovelyn Chidinma Nwadeyi. I am a Nigerian. Born in Nigeria to two Nigerian parents. Raised in Queenstown, Eastern Cape by those same Nigerian parents right up until I completed my Bachelors at Stellenbosch.
Growing up in South Africa, I was always reminded by those around me that I was different to everyone else. In primary school, I had a much darker complexion than I do now, and super white teeth – the telling marks of a foreigner that betray you even when you put on your best English accent. It is just too obvious.

Calls for Columnist Katie Hopkins's removal
The controversial British journalist Katie Hopkins is facing so much condemnation for comparing migrants to "cockroaches" over the recent mishap of migrants crossing the Mediterranean sea.
The Sun columnist wrote in the Sun on Friday saying “No, I don’t care. Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad. I still don’t care.
"Because in the next minute you’ll show me pictures of aggressive young men at Calais, spreading like norovirus on a cruise ship … These two populations are the same. The migrants harassing Brit truckers at the port are the same as the vagrants making the perilous trip across the Med.”
The media personality's comments has caused public outrage and incited complaints to the press regulator. Petitions to “remove Katie Hopkins as a columnist” as at Monday evening has passed its target of 200,000 signatures.

“Show a people as one thing, as only one thing over and over again and that is what they become. 'I am Malala' A book worth reading
Malala's mind set on education becomes clearer as I flip page after page of the book- 'I Am Malala'. The young woman's drive with her father's support is exemplary and goes to show the importance of education in emancipating the world. The literature opens a window of understanding the diversity of people and their culture, and the influence these can have on the world as a whole.
