Frightening footage of an angry hippo

That terrifying moment when a scene reminds you of what you would see in an action film. This footage shows the moment an unbelievably fast hippopotamus started to stalk some tourists in their boat in Malawi. As the animal got too close for comfort, the tourist had to adjust their speed to correlate with their fears.

The humongous hippo was filmed humping out of water..Take a look!

Charlie Hebdo's publication causes fury as churches burnt in Niger

Last week's Charlie Hebdo newspaper publication of Prophet Muhammad's cartoon in Paris has triggered protests in the Republic of Niger. Five persons are said to have been killed in the capital city Niamey. Protesters on Saturday set fire to churches and attacked French-owned commercial enterprises and properties. Police in the nation's capital threw tear gas into a crowd of protesters as they marched to the parliament to protest.

Why burn churches and kill each other in Niger over a cartoon published in Paris? Reprisal attack will not yield to anything peaceful!

Laylah Ali Othman features Mujahid Asari-Dokubo in Voices of The Youth

Laylah Ali Othman is the anchor of a new programme 'Voices of The Youth'. She takes on issues in the polity and I must say she knows her onions as a spring chicken. Here is her interview with the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Muhajid Asari-Dokubo and trust he didn't mince his words.

Power of the Narrative: Ranksha Pande's story- 'When Dad made like a monkey'

Ranksha's Dad
"This photograph was taken in the Kumaon region of the Indian Himalayas where I spent my childhood. Here the first rhododendron flowers herald the arrival of spring. I would say that they occupy the same significance in Kumaoni life as cherry blossoms do for the Japanese. The region is also famous for squash made out of rhododendron flower petals.
Every April, my family would go to the local women’s cooperative to buy a bottle or two of this wonderful ruby red drink. One year, the cooperative was doing a squash-making demonstration. When my dad saw this, he said it seemed so easy that we should make our own. So Dad, along with my little brother and me, went to collect flowers from the local wood to make our own squash.

Witchdoctors in Tanzania banned over albinos

Witchdoctors in Tanzania are currently out of business following government's ban on their practices over worrying killings of albinos. Over 70 albinos have been murdered in the country since year 2000 with a surge in 2009. Albinos body parts are considered to be repository of wealth by the witchdoctors. Tanzania Albinism Society's spokesperson, Ziziyada Nsembo said the ban is "just a starting point. We haven't seen where these hands, legs and skin are taken. If the witch doctors will tell us that they are taken to somebody we will be in a better position. We can reach the real culprits."

Waoh...I can't imagine the fear they must be living in.

Throwback Photo

In this photo is 4-year-old Folashade Lawson presenting a bouquet of flowers to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Lagos, South-West Nigeria in 1956. Her father Chief Adeyemi Lawson was the Chairman of the Lagos Town Council at the time.
Not every 4-year-old can pull this off...I hope the cute girl is still able to recollect this event...Long live the Queen!

Now my question is would you? Or you'd rather look away?

A Yay or a Nay?

When Kim Jong-II of North Korea feasts

I read an excerpt of a Cuisine column in 'i Newspaper' of December 9th 2014 edition and it told in summary about a new cookbook titled 'Dictators' Dinners: A Bad Taste Guide to Entertaining Tyrants' by Victoria Clark and Melissa Scott.
The selection has summaries about the feeding of tyrant rulers and the hard work it entailed organising supper feasts for these dictators. The one of the North Korean Kim Jong-II really made me giggle...I thought I should share.

"Most Foodie Dictator award goes to Kim Jong-II of North Korea. His personal chefs jetted all over the world to buy Iranian caviar,Thai mangoes and Japanese rice cakes with mugwort. Live lobsters were sent on the Trans-Siberian Express. An  army of women had to ensure every grain of rice was the same size, shape and colour. And his fugu (blowfish) chef reported that he "enjoyed raw fish so fresh that he could start eating it when its mouth was still gasping and its tail still thrashing".
Its nice to find a deranged tyrant who actually behaves like one at suppertime."

Waoh..That is some guy..lol!!

Paris attack: Muslim man who saved hostages to be given French citizenship

Lassana Bathily, 24, had no plan or preparedness when terror came visiting the Jewish grocery store he worked. As a shop attendant with his thinking cap on, realised he had to swiftly pack customers away and evade the store to look for help to combat the gunman Amedy Coulibaly, who had stormed the shop and killed four hostages during the Paris terror attack.

Even though Bathily's effort saved up to 15 Jewish hostages, the Muslim hero had this to say about his bravery "I helped Jews. We're all brothers," "It's not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims, we're all in the same boat," he said.
This courageous act has led to a petition for him to be given a French citizenship which has gathered 200,000 signatures.
The French Interior Ministry in a statement said: "Following the acts of bravery by Mr Bathily during the hostage taking in the Hyper Casher market on Jan. 9, the Interior Ministry has fast-tracked (his) request for citizenship." An official ceremony will be holding on January 20.

I'm sure all what he had on his mind was how everyone one would make it safe..Good one Mr Bathily!

Americans take it to new height

Success celebration naturally comes with a big smile and champagne for those who drink. It was not different when American duo Kelvin Jorgeson and Tommy Caldwell made history. The Dawn wall of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, California was the target of the men, where it took them 19 days to free-climb 914 meters height thereby making history as the first to conquer such sheer face height in mountain climbing. Their efforts became a feat as the ascent was a free climbing using hands and feet with the harness on them only to arrest falls.

I was following-up on these men attempt and could not help but applaud them especially viewing them resting in their camp tents on the sheer face at very great heights. President Barack Obama in commending the men said their effort is a reminder that 'anything is possible'.

Quite motivating. The word impossible is even 'I'm possible'.
