Diezani graces Financial Times

My admiration for Nigeria's Petroleum Minister and first female president of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Diezani Alison-Madueke grows fonder as her image stares at me on the cover of today's edition of Financial Times.

The Honourable Minister's image is feature in her capacity as OPEC President. The oil cartel organization might be calling for emergency meeting of member countries soon, if the falling price of oil is unabated, as this has attendant economic implications to member countries.
I am not only an admirer of this beautiful amazon but also draws inspiration from her career life. Ma, when I grow up, I would love to be like you professionally! (lol).

Africa has a lot to offer

Mo Farah, British 10,000 meters champion and USA based athlete was in Ethiopia for seven weeks of altitude training. He left the high altitude country to Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham where he raced 2 miles in 8 min 3.40 sec setting a world record first time in his career. The athlete declared 'I am definitely in the best shape of my life.'
My take in this story is that Africa resources can rule the world.

Automated Teller Machine inventor honoured

Though not with cash: James Goodfellow, inventor of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and the Personal Identification Number (PIN) technology has been bestowed with an honorary doctorate in his home town of Paisley in Scotland. The 77-year-old who developed the first 'hole in the wall' in the 1960's was at the University of West of Scotland to receive the award. He said: "the fact that a technology which enjoys world-wide usage originated here surprises a lot of people, but it shouldn't. Paisley always had a reputation for originality, hence the saying, 'Keep your eye on Paisley'".
List of inventions from Scotland seems endless.

Your TV might be the gossip

I can recall one or two African literature I have read portraying scenes where a character reminded others in the scene that 'walls have ears'. But can't remember any of the scenes had a Television not to talk of a Smart TV in the description.

Anyway, Samsung have warned users of its Smart TV of the nature of their discussions before this product as third party could listen to conversation in front of it through a voice recognition attribute of the television. Anyone accused of gossip now have a alibi?

Malcolm X: 50 Years on after assassination

On this day 50 years ago, Malcolm X, an American human right activist and a Muslim minister was assassinated. Born on May 19th 1925 as Malcolm Little but later changed his name to El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.
The month before he was assassinated in 1965, he was asked in an interview with Jack Barnes and Barry Sheppard on January 18, "What do you think is responsible for race prejudice in the US?" Malcolm responded, "Ignorance, greed and a skillfully designed program of mis-education that goes right along with the American system of exploitation and oppression... So, it takes education to eliminate it. Just because you have colleges and universities, doesn't mean you have education. The colleges and universities in the American educational system are skillfully used to mis-educate."

His assassination still has so many unanswered questions.

Taofick Okoya's Queens of Africa outsells Barbie

The first time I saw Taofick Okoya on TV talking about his dolls, I paused to listen and I said to myself that the idea would take him places. After a while, I wondered why its taking long to see the commercials everywhere and voila!! He's finally out with a bang. His dolls has outsold Barbie, selling up to 9,000 units a month with an astounding 15 per cent of Nigeria's toy market.

Taofick said in an interview with elle.com that among many demands, he gets orders from countries like Brazil, Ivory Coast, Europe and America. He still feels his brand is yet to make it. According to him "until it reaches every child of African decent all over the world and is a symbol of pride by making them appreciate who they are as an African."

Well said!

These executions were triggered when gruesome images showing Jordanian pilot surfaced after the pleas from families and friends for the pilot's release fell on deaf ears of the militants.

An Indian woman molested in a flight by a businessman, cries out

This video of a woman publicly shaming a businessman has gone viral. He allegedly molested her on an IndiGo flight in India. In the clip, the voice of a woman can be heard shouting at the man sitting behind her while video recording him at the same time. In his replies to her accusations, the man replied saying: ‘I am sorry about it, please forgive me.’ which she furiously replies: ‘Why, I’m sorry I’m a girl, please forgive me.’

I think justice should prevail..'Please forgive me' is not enough. This abuse has got to stop!!..
