Canadians elect new leader

Canada's federal election has produced a new leader - Justin Trudeau. Justin who assumed leadership of the country is son of Pierre Trudeau, a former prime minister. He led the Liberal party to clinch majority seats in the country's parliament.
In his victory address he said  ''...it's time for a change in this country, my friends, real change."

That, that is said to be constant - 'change' is like the new byword .......... in political landscapes?

Yayyy!! Feels good to be back!

Hi People! I have been AWOL for sometime now. My bad for not putting you all in the know that I'm back to school, hence my lack of postings in the few past days.

I'm a bit settled now. Getting a good hang of my classes, loving my course, enjoying the teachings and my teachers are fantastic!! They bring you nice perspectives to take on for what you love to do.

Kindly bear with me as I shall be updating you all on my journey. It feels so good to be back to the four walls of the classroom and yes , I'm still working on my weight loss and exercise routines too.

Facebook beams internet connectivity to Africa

Could this be the end of paying for data by millions of people in Sub Sahara Africa? , as Facebook perfect plans to beam Internet connectivity to the region via satellite by year 2016.

The social media giant is working with Eutelsat of France to deliver this innovative service.
Mark Zuckerberg in announcing this posted: "Connectivity changes lives and communities."

Happy birthday Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie!

I was meant to post a beautiful happy birthday message to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie yesterday but its never late I guess.

Adichie, a writer, turned 38 yesterday and I'm sure she had a great time celebrating.  Her speech on the dangers of a single story where she said “The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.” has actually been used in many citation across the globe.. And also in a conference I recently attended.

I wish you many more years Chimamanda!

'Almajiri', foster care done wrongly

Recently, discourse on Nigeria's 'Almajiri' phenomenon has been within my focus.

From Calabar to Birnin Kebbi, Abeokuta to Pambegua, it is part of the nation's cultural fabric that some parents entrust their wards with relations or regarded personality in the community for upbringing. The ward whilst in this tutelage scenario amongst others derive essentials for lifelong living. Several individuals through this peculiar cultural arrangement are beneficiaries of 'Almajiri foster caring'.

To achieve this, government must provide platform for identifying fit-for-purpose fosterers who would be responsible for adopting children, numbers of which must be limited. Where needed, the government should provide financial support to the fosterers to complement their efforts. Fosterers must as well commit to enrolling the children in education that would transform their lives. I believe this is the wish of majority of the parents of children in 'Almajiri' configuration.

What appears to be a funeral is what was going on but this time, a well to do Shanghai dog owner forks out 8,000 yuan on Taobao service which specializes in laying animals to its final resting place. The funeral service helped carry out a fitting tribute to the unique life of this dog.

The procession featured a luxury car carrying a photo of the late pet. The event called for attention as it passed with a convoy through the city on August 29.

A gigantic blue whale interrupts an interview.

BBC presenter Steve Backshall could not believe himself when a big blue whale appeared in the middle of him interviewing a marine expert live at Moss Landing in California.
The broadcaster could not contain himself upon hearing the news of the whale's appearance as he grabs the interviewee, Doris, in amazement and said ‘I am so so sorry. But I have just heard. This is incredible, I have just heard that we have on our helicopter a blue whale.’

Nigeria's D'Tigers clinches FIBA Afrobasket Championship

The Nigeria's male national basketball team, D'Tigers, have shown their prowess by winning the first ever International Basketball Federation, and the governing body of Basketball (FIBA)'s Afrobasket Championship on Sunday night in Tunisia. The Nigerian team defeated Tunisia 10-time champions Angola 74-65.

This is the first-ever continental championship win for the team!! Many congratulations to the boys!!They have done Nigeria proud!

The slump in Chinese economy is rippling across global markets with effect akin to 2008 financial crisis. British companies lost about £74 billion of their value to the development that is now tagged 'Black Monday'.

Markets in America, France and Germany were not spared in the free fall. The year 2008 is over and no one wants a repeat of that financial crisis.
